When we began this journey, we didn’t know a single homeschooling family. We didn’t know how big the movement was, and we were not aware that history could be explored using good literature. We have not heard of Charlotte Mason. One thing we knew was that God was leading us here, though we had no idea to what extent.
Armed with the Word of God, and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we ran with the vision. Only after walking through the door did we find out more about this movement called homeschooling. We set about with some Christian-based workbooks, a reading program, and a desk. We never questioned the routine until I listened to a seminar by Carole Joy Seid. Then I heard about Charlotte Mason. As we started implementing her philosophy of education, we discover how academics could be such an adventure shared by parents and children.
The day-to-day aspects of our home education remain a work in progress. God continues to show us ways to improve on certain areas. We learn of different approaches and wonderful avenues that we could utilize to enhance our educational journey, though simplicity always seems to have the edge.
In the end, it is about being faithful to the calling; being focused and not swayed to the left or to the right when everyone else is doing it a different way. Ultimately, it comes down to developing a biblical worldview that the children can take with them in continuing the journey. As we truly desire to train our children up in the way they should go, we’d realize how challenging that is, when all day they are being influenced and molded by heathens. (And by that, I’m talking about a system that denies the existence of God, NOT the individual teachers.) And though a Christian institution appears to be a much better choice, I am totally convinced that we could not find anyone who would love, admonish and train our children up the way we, parents could, as the Word of God clearly states that as our mandate.

) I am a homeschooling mom as well and that verse in Deuteronomy is one that I hold dear.
